BCAAS And Glutamine (BCAA With Glutamine Supplement)
One of the more popular supplement “stacks” or combination is the synergistic use of BCAAS and Glutamine. Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAS) describe a class of essential amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, valine) routinely used for muscle performance, muscular gains and recovery. Glutamine, on the other hand, is a non essential amino acid meaning that your body can not produce it in significant quantities. Studies have shown that glutamine can also aid in exercise recovery by boosting the immune system response. Recent research shows that glutamine can also increase gut health and reduce leaky gut.
The stark differences between BCAA and Glutamine often causes me to raise an eye brow when people question which is better for strength or recovery. They are different supplements but they work well together according to studies. A short term study done in juvenile athletes shows lower blood levels of inflammatory markers IL-5 and Il-6 as well as inflammatory cytokines. Interesting to note that these results were only seen in a combined group (BCAA and glutamine) and BCAA group but not in the glutamine only group.
When I formulated the Physique Formula BCAAS, I knew that I wanted to include glutamine to increase gut health and immune response in addition to the muscle building benefits of BCAAS. Branched Chain Amino acids can also increase recovery time while reducing muscle soreness.
My main objective for including glutamine was for the gut restoring benefits. Why does gut health matter in this context? When our gut health is compromised as a result of stress and certain inflammatory foods, our hormone health is compromised. This leads to a long cascade of hormonal issues that decreases muscle recovery and growth potential.
The Physique Formula BCAAS include 3 grams of glutamine per serving.
